RealTimeData: Find out what is happening at a river, bore or dam near you in NSW
The NSW Office of Water is responsible for the management of surface and groundwater resources in NSW.
To be able to manage these resources the Office undertakes a range of water monitoring programs measuring surface water level and flow, groundwater levels, storage level and volumes, and surface and groundwater water quality and biological conditions. The monitoring involves a combination of automatic digital sensors and logging devices as well as manual sampling. All the data from these activities is then collated within a central database system.
This App provides you with access to the real time information from the automatic digital devices from over 1200 of NOW’s water monitoring sites throughout the state. Information from these monitoring sites can include things like stream, storage or groundwater levels, streamflows, storage volumes, water temperatures, rainfall and various types of water quality data.
The data in the field is typically measured every 15 minutes with most data being updated at the central location hourly. Circumstances may delay the delivery of data from the field but the data will always be tied to a date and time so you will know when the measurement was taken.
Please note that the data is collected and displayed to Eastern Standard Time (UTC+10) at all times during the year.
Be aware that in the interest of making this data available as quickly as possible, the data is provided largely “as-is” ie direct from the devices that have recorded it. While NOW’s hydrometric data collection activities are quality accredited, the data delivery time constraints mean that little or no validation of the data can be carried out before the data is made available through this App or through the Offices’ web sites: http://waterinfo.nsw.gov.au, http://realtimedata.water.nsw.gov.au and http://realtimedata.water.nsw.gov.au/mobile.
If you have any issues with the data or the App please contact us through the App contact e-mail address: [email protected]
